In contrast to cold pressure welding, ultrasonic welding uses significantly lower contact pressure between the parts being joined. Metallurgically speaking, ultrasonic welding is a cold welding process, since the heat generated by the ultrasonic energy is not essential to the formation of the joint. Aluminium and copper can be welded together in any combination (AL-CU; AL-AL).
